The Gateshead Housing Company is an Arms Length Management Organisation owned by Gateshead Council. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of Gateshead Council's homes.
Challenge
The Gateshead Housing Company's aim is to provide excellent and effi cient services, working in partnership with residents and the wider local community to create homes and neighbourhoods that meet the aspirations of the people of Gateshead.
The Gateshead Housing Company recognises that ICT can play a major part in providing the excellent and effi cient services it strives so wanted to ensure it had an ICT strategy in place to support this.
"We wanted to take a look at our existing use of ICT across the organisation and ensure that our strategy moving forward made most sense for our business," commented Jon Mallen Beadle, Director of Finance, The Gateshead Housing Company. "As well as directly improving the services we deliver to our customers, we wanted to drive effi ciencies and reduce overall costs to the business."
Solution
The Gateshead Housing Company chose to partner with independent IT consultancy, NCC Group, to undertake a review of the current use of ICT within the organisation and develop an ICT strategy, fully aligned to the organisation's business strategy moving forward.

NCC Group's team of consultants undertook a review of the use of ICT within the organisation, looking into the existing governance arrangements and the value for money of the ICT service provided by the Council.
Results
Following the review, the consultants developed an improvement plan to support the findings, along with an ICT provision options review which considered the strengths and weaknesses of contracting with an alternative ICT provider.
Through the implementation of the ICT strategy, The Gateshead Housing Company has ensured that its services and its ICT function work effectively in partnership with each other, ensuring that ICT service provision is proactive, customer-focused, sustainable and resilient to business change and offers clear value for money.
